Safe Surfing on the Internet

My fourth grader is becoming increasingly Internet savvy. I want to install an Internet filter on our computer to prevent my kids from accessing inappropriate material. We use Google as our search engine and I have it set to "strict filtering" but I fear that my kids will soon find other ways to navigate the Internet.

Does anyone have software suggestions or know of good sites that review this type of software? I'm wondering if I install something if it's going to make the Internet a pain for me to use.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Former Greenbrier parent here. I also have a 4th grader as you know Willa plus a 5th grader. Please do NOT trust that the Google "strict filtering" will work. I was shocked to find many inappropirate sited on our computer that has the strict restrictions. It really comes to talking to him and making sure he understands. Plus continuing to check the computer history to make sure that nothing inappropriate has been accessed. As for programs, I am sure there are some but we have never used them.

It's good to hear from you, Katrina. Yes, we have talked to both our 4th and 2nd graders because I got a very bad pop-up the other day. We realized we had better talk to them so if they see something, they don't think they've done something wrong and not tell us. Checking the computer history is a good idea.

20 inches of snow sounds like a real adventure. Thanks to you and your family for your military service!
